Every year on the Sunday nearest St. Nicholas’ feast day of December 6, after Divine Liturgy, Holy Ghost Parishioners and friends hear a loud knock on the church door. Who can it be? Someone hurries to open the door, and there is St. Nicholas himself who has come to pay us a visit! He is dressed in his Bishop’s robes and mitre and carries a golden staff and of course he has a big, long, white beard. St. Nicholas always has something to say to the congregation, and especially something to say to the children. After a short speech, because St. Nicholas is hungry from his long trip, everyone goes to the parish hall to celebrate with a brunch served by the committee. There is a special song to honor St. Nicholas. Then the children gather around St. Nicholas to receive a present from the Saint who loves children.
